Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign

Hi all. This goes out to everyone but this will especially touch the hearts of parents...

I just wanted to let you know about a fab new campaign by the Royal Marsden Hospital. They need to raise £15million to update the Children's Unit to become a new Children's and Teenage Cancer Centre in Sutton to be ready by 2010. This is to meet the 35% increase in children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer and treated at this fab hospital. They've had a 35% increase - can you believe that? That's a terrible statistic.

I know from personal experience how fab it is but also how badly in need of updating it is. My son Tim was treated in the Children's Unit there in 2002 aged 7. It's as simple as this. He would not be here today if it had not been for that hospital. I still get choked up thinking about it. I got a letter today in the post from a current teenage girl patient asking me to support the campagin. It felt like a kick in the stomach. It still touches a nerve even now.

I am having a stall at a local church fair at the end of November and am donating the money raised from selling my cards to this campaign. I'm also not sending Christmas cards to family & friends this year and donating the money instead. If anyone would like to help out with this fundraising please let me know.

Please visit their website http://www.royalmarsden.org/Campaign/Appeals/ChildrenTeensAppeal.htm or click on my "justgiving" icon on the right to donate. Every penny will be well spent. We all know someone who's been affected by cancer. Help the Royal Marsden make a difference to someone's life. It really does help people survive.

My son is fine now and he's 14. Thanks to the Marsden I still have him. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  1. Your plan to raise money sounds great Clare. Thanks for supporting our appeal - it means a lot to everyone here at the hospital.
